Credit card fraud prevention for merchants: Website design
Just because there’s a sign that says a house is alarmed, it doesn’t mean the house is necessarily alarmed. Graphics are often placed on sites to ward off potential offenders. These graphics make claims that have no basis in reality. Just because the website says there is a theft deterrent in place, it doesn’t mean there is.
It’s the same with data fields. Just because there’s a place for a CVM (the three or four digits listed on the back of a card), it doesn’t mean the site has the technology to process one.
To deter international fraud, some merchants even create an extra “Thank
You Page” that requests the customer to fax a photo of the credit
card or a photocopy of the bill. A deduction of $3-$5 is usually made
to compensate for the inconvenience.
